UCM Resita - KAUSTIK VOLGOGRAD 33-23 (the first leg 24-30) CHALLENGE CUP - the players of Aihan Omer are qualified to the semifinals after a handball lesson given to the Russian team
Yesterday, Aihan Omer proved once more why he is considered to be one of the most valuable handball coaches of the country. Most likely, the best one! "The Turck" prepared so well the second leg with Volgograd, in the quarters of the Challenge Cup, that Alexandr Alexeev, the coach of Kaustik, remained speechless. Same happened with his team on the field. Omer didn't neglected any aspect: he thought hard upon a strong defense that, sustained by two goalkeepers in fine fettle, Ionescu and Antonaru, blocked all the attack routes of the Russian team (the opposite players that made the law in the first leg were unable to make any movement): the diverse and speculative offensive guided by a "General", Butulija, and five "Colonels", Irimescu, Tucanu, Pasic plus the reborned Rohozneanu and Ciubotariu.
The team from Banat had to retrieve six goals but, with patience, they succeeded to detach themselves at four goals, 6-2 (min. 9) and 8-4 (min. 13), they gnashed their teeth when the score was at a draw (11-11, min. 23) but they star the fight again encouraged by 2.200 fanatical fans. The destiny of the qualification was decided in the second half of the match. After a score of 17-14 at break time, the team from Resita recovered the gap from the first leg at the minute 44: 25-19. From now on, on the field was present only a team. UCM Resita was launched to the position of winner and imposed itself with the score of 33-23, starting the fiesta. "I lost the bet with the President Cristian Gatu, who predicted a victory at 10 goals difference. We were victorious in front of an important team in the Russian handball and I'd rather prefer Resita team to play the semifinals with the other team from Russia. I'm sick and tired of official trips to Norway, where we always have lost", said the Vice-President of FRH, Mr. Petru Paleu.
"This is the most beautiful qualification in the history of the handball from Resita. We want to show them that in Romania too, we play handball of good quality and not only in Russia. I believe they had something to learn from us!" said Aihan Omer, the Coach of UCM Resita
